Further to our recent item about the development of a trail beside a railway in the Blue Mountains, the Rails to Trails Conservancy in the US has recently released two reports on this concept.
"Rails-with-trails: Design, Management, and Operating Characteristics along 61 Active Rail Lines"
The Rails to Trails Conservancy's November 2000 report, produced in cooperation with the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program. The report is available in PDF format: Main Report, Appendix.
"State of The Practice: Rails-With-Trails"
Alta Transportation Consulting recently released a revised draft of "State of the Practice," a report on rails-with-trails. This report is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation (Federal Railroad Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
